In the United Synagogue the role of a Women Officer was created with the purpose to ensure that positive opportunities for women’s engagement are incorporated into all areas of community life and that the Synagogue is welcoming to and inclusive of women. The Women’s Officer supports the active participation of our female members in community life and religious services, with particular sensitivity to issues that affect them.
The United Synagogue has an active community of Women Officers, with a live WhatsApp group where questions and answers are shared, including best practices on what each Synagogue is doing for Chagim, Yamin Noraim, and many more. The community of Women Officers is also organising events, some attended by the Chief Rabbi.
For Hampstead Synagogue, The Hagomel and Kaddish guides have been around for some years and women saying Kaddish if they wish, it is something we have encouraged in Shul for many years. In addition, we hold a monthly Rosh Chodesh Hallel prayers on Zoom and we continue to welcome new members to lein Megillah Esther with us during Purim. We aim to organise Women-centered events in the coming months. If you would like to support in organising them or have an idea, please share it with us. It’s only if we operate together that we can create growth.
The Zoom link for Rosh Chodesh Hallel can be found under the Services menu HERE. Please email events@hampsteshul.org.uk for the password.
